原本是 Google Lab 的子計畫，後來移交給麻省理工學院行動學習中心，之後以 MIT App Inventor 的名稱公佈使用。
目前有兩個產品可以使用：
- App Inventor Classic，因未來可能會停用，所以筆記還是以 App Inventor 2 為主
- App Inventor 2 (下簡稱 AI2)
在 AI2 裡，分成兩種開發介面：
- Designer: 前端和 UI
- Blocks: 程式邏輯

Designer 裡面放的都是 Layout 和 Widgets 居多
